UNC Asheville Hosts Longwood and Winthrop This Weekend at Home

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team returns to action this weekend by playing host to two league matches at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.

The Bulldogs (8-5, 1-1 Big South Conference) will first welcome Longwood at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 23, before ending the weekend by taking on Winthrop at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 25.

Playing Well at Home

UNC Asheville opens this weekend's two matches with an 8-1 record at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown. The Bulldogs have won four straight at home.

The No. 1 Spot
UNC Asheville's Kylee Shipley has won four straight in singles to improve 9-4 on the year overall and 8-4 at No. 1 singles. The nine wins are tied with Emily Sidor for the most on the team. In doubles, Shipley has teamed with Hannah Francisco to win their last four as well. The duo is an impressive 11-2 overall with all of their matches played at No. 1 doubles.

About Longwood
The Lancers travel to UNC Asheville with an overall record of 5-5 on the season. Longwood is 0-4 in league play so far. Tanja Skalda leads the Lancers in dual match singles play with a 6-2 record.

About Winthrop
The Eagles face Campbell on Saturday at home before traveling to Asheville to take on the Bulldogs on Sunday, March 25. Winthrop enters the weekend with an overall record of 10-4 on the season. The Eagles are 4-0 in league play. Playing mainly at No. 2 singles, Alisa Soloveva leads Winthrop with an 11-1 singles record. Lauren Proctor is 9-2 at No. 1 singles. It should be a fantastic battle at No. 1 doubles between Hannah Francisco and Kylee Shipley of UNC Asheville (11-2) and Winthrop's No. 1 duo of Proctor and Megan Kauffman (11-0). The Winthrop duo is currently ranked 54th nationally.

UNC Asheville women's tennis after this weekend's two matches will next travel to the Commonwealth of Virginia for two league matches. The Bulldogs will first take on Liberty at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 30, before battling Radford at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31.
