Bulldogs Drop Road Match at Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team fell 5-2 to rival Western Carolina on Thursday, March 15, at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
The match opened with Western Carolina (6-4) taking the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles over UNC Asheville (8-5).
UNC Asheville did pick up the win at No. 1 doubles with the duo of Kylee Shipley and Hannah Francisco besting Western Carolina's Savannah Taranto and Jordan Strickland, 6-3. Shipley and Francisco are now an impressive 11-2 on the season. They have won four straight.
In singles, Shipley also earned her fourth straight victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles over Jordyn King. Shipley now has a team-best tying nine singles wins on the season.
UNC Asheville's other singles win on the day came at No. 6 singles where Taylor Love garnered a hard-fought 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-0) win over Caitlin Ward.
UNC Asheville women's tennis will next have just over a week off. The Bulldogs will next be in action at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 23, when they host league rival Longwood.
