Fitzgerald’s Double-Double Not Enough as Bulldogs Fall to Radford on Tuesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Despite Bronaza Fitzgerald's 13th career double-double, the UNC Asheville women's basketball team fell to Radford, 64-48, on Tuesday night in Kimmel Arena.

BULLDOG BITES

In the first quarter the Bulldogs started out-rallying the Highlanders, which came with a seven-point run. Junior Jessica Wall ended the first quarter with a buzzer-beater that earned the Bulldogs just a one-point deficit at the quarter break.

To start the second quarter, the Bulldogs continued their run, which was the highest run of the game, to 11 points. The squad earned 10 rebounds in the second quarter and capitalized by netting three second-chance points.

At the half, the Bulldogs led 26-22 over the Highlanders. In the first half, the Bulldogs made 10 baskets and nine were scored by three players in Khaila Webb, Fitzgerald and Wall.

During the third quarter, there were three lead changes as the Bulldogs rallied with the Highlanders and scored their most points in a quarter of the game with 14.

Early into the fourth quarter, Fitzgerald earned another double-double of 11 rebounds and 14 total points. This is the 13th career double-double for the Danville, Va. native and her ninth of the season.

Three bulldogs - Fitzgerald, Wall and Webb - scored double-digits as the trio converted on 17 of the team's 20 made field goals. They also made all six of the team's free-throws while combining for 18 rebounds.

Fitzgerald grabbed a game-high seven defensive rebounds as she converted on six field goals. Wall and Webb each netted 13 points as they combined for four assists and two steals.

In total there were five lead changes as the Bulldogs led for over 12 minutes of the contest.

The Bulldogs made 34 points in the paint, including nine points off turnovers. The Highlanders held a narrow advantage in total rebounds, (33-32) as they shot 47 percent from the field.

UNC Asheville drops to 11-11 overall and 8-3 in Big South Conference. Radford moves to 15-7 overall and 8-3 in league play.
