Patten Picks Up Another Top-30 Singles Win in Bulldog 5-2 Loss to Tennessee Tech

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's tennis standout Henry Patten picked up another top-30 singles win, but UNC Asheville as a team was unable to best visiting Tennessee Tech in a 5-2 loss to the Golden Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 4, at the Asheville Racquet Club downtown.
Currently ranked 43rd nationally, Patten downed 28th-ranked Eduardo Mena 7-5, 7-6 at No. 1 singles. In a battle between the reigning Big South and OVC Players of the Year it was Patten who secured his second straight win over Mena. Last season on Feb. 11, 2017, at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown, Patten garnered a 6-1, 7-6 win over Mena.
Finlay Ray McFadyen picked up UNC Asheville's other singles victory on the day with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Tennessee Tech's Arthur Justo.
Tennessee Tech (1-5) narrowly took the doubles point by winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Patten and Olly Cull won at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 victory over Tennessee Tech's Marc Mila and Jorge Alfonzo.

Patten's victory over Mena marked his third win in 2017-18 against top-30 ranked foes. In November, Patten downed No. 25 Daniel Valent of Vanderbilt in straight sets 7-5, 6-4, at the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa. Patten also collected a win over Emil Reinberg of Georgia 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2), 6-4 at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
