Track & Field Prepped for Big South Indoor Championships

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – For the final indoor meet of the season, the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Lynchburg, Va. to compete in the two-day Big South Indoor Championships.
Last Time Out
At the Chipotle Marshall Invitational, the Bulldogs had a lot of success in the two-day meet. Victor Mathuthu finished in the top-5 of the men's long jump, and Thomas Little set a career best with a 15:49.65 in the men's 5000m.
On the second day of the meet, Mathuthu broke the school record in the men's triple jump, as he made a leap of 14.08m.
Senior Hunter Koike had strong performances in the 60m, as he recorded a season-best 6.98 time in the finals and moved into second place all-time in UNC Asheville history.
Matthew Harding earned a first-place finish, as he out-raced the competition in the men's 800m.
On the women's side, Kayli Nichols, Desire Brown, Jasmine Cox and Heather Grober placed third in the 4 x 400m relay with a 3:57.03. That time moves the foursome into second place in the all-time record book for the Bulldogs.
Koike also finished runner-up in the men's 200m with a season-best 21.97. The time also moves him into second for the fastest time in program history in the event.
About The Indoor Championships
The Big South Indoor Championships is hosted by Liberty inside the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. The first day of the two-day meet will be Friday, Feb. 23.
The Championships consist of 16 event with the first event of the two-day meet being the heptathlon. The first field event will be the pole vault on Friday at 1 p.m.
Friday will hold five preliminary events, 60m hurdles, 400m, 60m, 800m and 200m, while Saturday will hold the finals for 11 different events.
