UNC Asheville Women’s Tennis Plays Host to Lenoir-Rhyne on Monday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team will try and remain perfect at home in the 2018 spring season when they play host to Lenoir-Rhyne at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19.

UNC Asheville women's tennis (2-2) closed out its opening weekend of the year by collecting a thrilling 4-3 win over USC Upstate Jan. 27. To learn more, please visit HERE. The victories over USC Upstate and Mars Hill are the only two home matches of the spring season so far for the Bulldogs.

Shipley Named Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week After Opening Weekend
Kylee Shipley of UNC Asheville women's tennis was chosen as the Big South Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018.

Shipley finished her first weekend of the year a perfect 2-0 at No. 1 singles and at No. 1 doubles. In the season opener, Shipley picked up a 6-4, 6-3 over Mars Hill's Evan Lake on Friday, Jan. 26. One day later, the junior from Jupiter, Fla. garnered a 6-3, 6-3 win over USC Upstate's No. 1 Noelia Acuna on Saturday, Jan. 27.

In doubles, Shipley teamed up with Hannah Francisco to open the year with a 6-1 win over Lake and Jasha Geerdink of Mars Hill. On Saturday, Jan. 27, Shipley and Francisco collected a 6-3 win over Upstate's Carol Sigaki and Vale Zarama at No. 1 doubles.

The NCAA Division II Bears are a perfect 4-0 on the season with wins over Johnson C. Smith, Catawba, Young Harris and Southern Wesleyan.

UNC Asheville will next continue its homestand by playing host to two matches this upcoming weekend. The Bulldogs will first host North Carolina Central at 2 p.m. on Feb. 24 before ending the weekend by playing host to UNCG at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25.
