UNC Asheville Women’s Tennis Faces Off Against Davidson Friday in First Road Match of 2018 Season

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Fresh off a perfect opening weekend, the UNC Asheville women's tennis team hits the road for the first time in the 2018 season to take on Davidson at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2.

Shipley Named Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Kylee Shipley of UNC Asheville women's tennis was chosen as the Big South Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

The league office made the official announcement on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018.

Shipley finished her first weekend of the year a perfect 2-0 at No. 1 singles and at No. 1 doubles.

In the season opener, Shipley picked up a 6-4, 6-3 over Mars Hill's Evan Lake on Friday, Jan. 26. One day later, the junior from Jupiter, Fla. garnered a 6-3, 6-3 win over USC Upstate's No. 1 Noelia Acuna on Saturday, Jan. 27.

In doubles, Shipley teamed up with Hannah Francisco to open the year with a 6-1 win over Lake and Jasha Geerdink of Mars Hill. On Saturday, Jan. 27, Shipley and Francisco collected a 6-3 win over Upstate's Carol Sigaki and Vale Zarama at No. 1 doubles.

About Davidson
The Wildcats welcome the Bulldogs owning a record of 1-1 on the 2018 season. Davidson opened its year with a 7-0 loss at No. 5 North Carolina before besting Gardner-Webb, 7-0, at home on Saturday, Jan. 27.

UNC Asheville women's tennis will next return home for two matches next weekend at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown. The Bulldogs will first play host to Lenoir-Rhyne at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, before closing the weekend at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11, with a home match against Kennesaw State.
