UNC Asheville Drops Mountain Rivalry Game to Western Carolina

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Three Bulldogs finished in double figures in UNC Asheville's 71-59 Mountain Rivalry loss to Western Carolina on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Kimmel Arena.

Coty Jude led the Bulldogs in the loss with 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting. He also shot 50 percent from beyond the arc where he hit four of his eight shots. Jude also had three boards, two steals and one block.

Tajion Jones finished UNC Asheville's loss with 14 points and four assists.  

The final Bulldog in double figures was DeVon Baker, who ended his efforts with 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.

As a team, UNC Asheville (1-8) finished the game shooting 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the field. The Bulldogs were once again strong from the charity stripe where they finished the game shooting 78.6 percent (11-of-14).

Western Carolina (3-8) ended its day shooting 49 percent (24-of-49) from the field. The Catamounts connected on 40.9 percent (9-of-22) of their three-point attempts. Western Carolina shot 70 percent (14-of-20) from the free throw line.

Four finished in double figures for the Catamounts with Kameron Gibson leading the way with 15 points.

UNC Asheville ended the game with Western Carolina with a team single-game best nine blocks as a team. UNC Asheville now has two games this year with six or more blocks as a team in a single game. UNC Asheville had six blocks, including five in the first half, in its game at NC State.

Nice Response in the Second Half
UNC Asheville outscored the Catamounts in the second half, 38-30.
