Four Bulldogs Score in Double Figures in UNC Asheville’s Home Win Over Milligan

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A second half surge by UNC Asheville men's basketball allowed the Bulldogs to pick up an 86-76 win over Milligan on Friday, Dec. 21, at Kimmel Arena.

UNC Asheville (2-10) opened the game by taking a 23-13 lead behind 10 early points from Tajion Jones, who punctuated the early run for the Bulldogs with a dunk with 12:44 remaining in the first half.

Milligan (7-5) would go on a 15-0 run over the next few minutes to take a 28-23 lead with just under seven minutes to play in the first half. The two teams would be all tied up at 30-all after a Cress Worthy three-pointer for the Bulldogs with 4:03 left in the opening half of action.

The Buffaloes would take a 38-37 lead into intermission.

UNC Asheville closed out the first half shooting 41.2 percent (14-of-34) as a team, while Milligan shot 52 percent (13-of-25) as a team in the first stanza. Jones led the Bulldogs in the first half with 12 points.

The two teams would play back and forth over the first seven minutes of the second half with the game tied at 51-51 with 13:15 to play in the contest.

That would prove to be the last tie of the game though with a Jalen Seegars three-pointer with 12:47 remaining in the game giving the Bulldogs the lead for good.

In fact, the three-pointer was part of a 9-0 run for UNC Asheville that gave the Bulldogs a 60-51 lead after a Seegars dunk with 11:26 left in the second half.

UNC Asheville would close things out the rest of the way with the Bulldogs taking the 10-point victory.

The Bulldogs closed out the game shooting 50 percent (31-of-62) as a team, while Milligan also shot 50 percent (27-of-54) as a team.

UNC Asheville shot an impressive 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from beyond the arc as a team in the game.

Four Bulldogs finished in double figures with Tajion Jones leading the way with a career-best 30 points to go along with a career-high five assists, three rebounds and three steals, which also tied a career-best.

DeVon Baker continued his strong play with 22 points, a career-best five assists, two rebounds and one block.

Coty Jude finished with 12 points, three rebounds and two steals, while Seegars tied his career-best with 10 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.

Milligan had three players in double figures with the Buffaloes led by a double-double by Aaron Levarity, who had 20 points and 11 rebounds.

BULLDOG BITES

Two Straight Over 30

DeVon Baker with 31 points at Stetson earlier this week became the first Bulldog to score 30 or more in a single game since Ahmad Thomas scored 30 in UNC Asheville's game with Liberty on Feb. 15, 2018. It only took one more game for another Bulldog to post 30 with Tajion Jones scoring a career-best 30 in the win over Milligan.

Second Time With Two Over 20
UNC Asheville had two players finish with over 20 points in a single game for the second time this season in the win over Milligan with Tajion Jones posting 30 and DeVon Baker scoring 22. Coty Jude (21) and DeVon Baker (20) both had over 20 in UNC Asheville's game at UT Martin.

Home Sweet Home
UNC Asheville is now 84-20 overall and 57-12 against Big South foes within the friendly confines of Kimmel Arena inside the Sherrill Center. The Bulldogs have won 25 of their last 29 at Kimmel Arena overall.
