UNC Asheville Men’s Basketball Falls to Furman on Sunday at Kimmel Arena

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A young UNC Asheville men's basketball team gave undefeated Furman all it could handle in a 65-51 Paladin win over the Bulldogs on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018.

The game started with UNC Asheville going on a 6-2 run over the first almost two minutes of the game. The Bulldogs would hold the lead until just over 15 minutes to play with Jordan Lyons hitting a three-pointer to give the Paladins an 8-6 lead with 15:09 left in the opening half of play.

Furman held a slight 14-11 lead with 12:16 left in the first half after a three-pointer by Coty Jude. A little while later a layup by DeVon Baker pulled the Bulldogs within two at 18-16.

That would be as close as the Bulldogs would be able to get in the first half with Furman (7-0) taking a 38-22 lead into the halftime break.

UNC Asheville (1-5) finished the first half shooting 50 percent (10-of-20) as a team, while Furman also shot 50 percent (16-of-32) as a team in the opening stanza.

The Bulldogs would go on to outscore the Paladins, 29-27, in the second half.

UNC Asheville finished the contest shooting 43.8 percent (21-of-48) as a team. Furman shot 48.2 percent (27-of-56) as a team in its win over the Bulldogs.

Two Bulldogs finished in double figures with Tajion Jones leading the way with 14 points. He also had five rebounds, two steals and one block.

Cress Worthy ended his efforts with 10 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists. Baker led the Bulldogs with four assists. He also had three steals.

Matt Rafferty led the Paladins in their win with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Stealing Their Way to Points
UNC Asheville finished with 11 steals in the game with Furman. The Bulldogs turned the 11 steals into 11 points. UNC Asheville as a team now has two games with double-digit steals. UNC Asheville had 12 steals in the win over St. Andrews.

Perfect from the Free Throw Line
UNC Asheville was a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe as a team. It marks the first time UNC Asheville finished a game perfect from the free throw line since going 7-of-7 in a 73-47 road win over Presbyterian College on Jan. 26, 2017.

The month of December will open for UNC Asheville with the Bulldogs traveling to Martin, Tenn. for the second meeting between UT Martin and UNC Asheville in the last three seasons. The Bulldogs last visited the Skyhawks on March 16, 2017 in the opening round of the 2017 CollegeInsider.com (CIT) Postseason Tournament.

UNC Asheville and UT Martin will face off this year at 8:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Dec. 1. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
