Bulldogs Battle in Road Loss at UT Martin

MARTIN, Tenn. – In a game where the lead changed hands four times, UNC Asheville was unable to deter a late UT Martin run in an 87-70 loss to the Skyhawks at the Elam Center on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018.
The game opened with DeVon Baker giving the Bulldogs an early 5-2 advantage off a reverse layup and then a three-pointer with 18:27 left in the first half.
UNC Asheville (1-6) would own a 13-11 lead after two Coty Jude free throws with 12:59 left in the opening half.
The two teams would keep playing back and forth over the next few minutes with the game all tied up at 27-all after a Tajion Jones three-pointer with 6:57 left in the first stanza.
From there UT Martin (3-2) would go ahead by as many as 13 at 44-31 with 50 seconds remaining in the first half, but Jude would knock down a three-pointer with 24 seconds to play in the half to send the two teams into intermission with the Skyhawks leading 44-34.
Baker led the Bulldogs with 11 points in the first half.
As a team, UNC Asheville finished the first half shooting 52 percent (13-of-25). The Bulldogs knocked down 41.2 percent (5-of-12) of their shots from beyond the arc in the first half.
UT Martin closed out the first half shooting 46.3 percent (19-of-41) as a team. The Skyhawks connected on just 28.6 percent (4-of-14) of their three-point attempts.
Buoyed by eight points from Jude the Bulldogs commenced the second half on an 11-2 run to pull within one at 46-45 with 15:43 remaining in the contest.
Things would stay close over the next few minutes with the Bulldogs down just three at 61-58 after a Baker trey with 9:21 left in the game.
That would prove to be as close as the Bulldogs would be able to get the rest of the game with UT Martin emerging with the 17-point victory.
UNC Asheville was led in its loss by Jude (21 points) and Baker (20 points).
Jude was 7-of-10 from the field en route to his career-best 21 points. He was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-of-4 at the charity stripe. Jude also had four offensive rebounds and one assist.
Baker also had four rebounds, three rebounds and two steals in addition to his 20 points.
UNC Asheville's Cress Worthy packed the stat sheet with eight points, a career-best six assists, four rebounds and one steal.
Jeremy Peck led the Bulldogs in rebounds with seven. Jalen Seegars led UNC Asheville with a career-best three blocks.
Three for the Skyhawks finished in double figures with Quintin Dove leading the way with a game-high 22 points.
UNC Asheville finished the game shooting 50.9 percent (28-of-55) as a team from the field. The Bulldogs were 5-of-6 (83.3 percent) from the free throw line.
UT Martin shot 50 percent (36-of-72) from the field as a team.
The Bulldogs out-rebounded UT Martin, 34-32.

Jonathan Baehre (28) and MaCio Teague (26) both finished UNC Asheville's narrow 103-98 double overtime loss to Southern California in the NIT last year with 20 or more points.
