Game Highlights

UNC Asheville started red hot in the first quarter, as it doubled WCU's total points (16-8). Of the 16 Asheville points, Dengokl tallied six of those on 3-for-4 shooting from the field.

UNC Asheville totaled 18 points in the second quarter to carry a 10-point lead at the halftime break. In the second stanza, Wall started to find her groove, as she went a perfect 4-for-4 beyond the three-point arc. Impressively, she scored 12 of those points in only six minutes of action.

At the halftime break, UNC Asheville held the edge in points off turnovers, 14-0.

The Bulldog offense really started to catch fire in the third quarter, as it totaled 22 points. In fact, seven different Bulldogs scored in the stanza. Wall and Dengokl combined for 10 of the team's points, while Zip Scott and Evans each tallied three points.

To cap off the home opener, UNC Asheville again outscored Western Carolina in the fourth quarter, 18-13. Freshman center Evonna McGill played four minutes in the quarter, and she totaled five points on 2-for-2 shooting. Scott, Wall and Dengokl combined for 10 of Asheville's points in the fourth quarter.

Overall, Wall was impressive behind the three-point arc, as she went 8-for-11. The eight made three pointers was only one shy of matching a school record, which she set last year versus Furman in the Women's Basketball Invitational. She finished the contest with 24 points and five assists.

Dengokl was the team's second-leading scorer, as the senior guard posted 16 points. She went 6-for-12 from the field and went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. She also ended the game with three assists, three steals and a block.

Evans was the final Bulldog in double figures, as the sophomore totaled a season-high 10 points. She went 4-for-10 from the hardwood. She was also tied for the team lead in rebounds with five.

Scott nearly joined her teammates in double digits, as she finished the game with nine points. The junior also earned three assists, three steals and three boards.

The Bulldogs limited their turnovers to just nine. They forced 21 Catamount turnovers, which allowed UNC Asheville to have a 23-0 advantage in points off turnovers.

The 74 points scored marked the most points UNC Asheville has scored this year, and the 49 allowed points also marks a season best for the Bulldog defense.

With its first win of the year, UNC Asheville moves to 1-2 on the year, and Western Carolina drops to 1-4.
