Bulldogs Back In Action on Saturday at Reigning Big South Champions High Point

2018 UNC Asheville Women's Soccer Media Guide

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After playing to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday at home against Gardner-Webb, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team travels to 2017 Big South Regular Season and Tournament Champion High Point on Saturday, Oct. 6 for a weekend matchup.

Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Vert Stadium.

UNC Asheville travels to High Point with a 1-5-4 overall record and a 0-2-2 mark in Big South contests.

In the last two road games UNC Asheville is 0-1-1. In that stretch Kyra Kandel and Gillian Oyos have each netted a goal, while Kandel tallied an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Courtney O'Malley started both games in net, and she sports a 1.35 goals against average in 200 minutes of play.

In the last match (versus Gardner-Webb) Maya Gutman tallied her first collegiate goal. The goal tied the contest at 1-1 in the 72nd minute. Justine James earned the assist, which was the first assist of the season and the first since her freshman year in 2015.

Scouting High Point

The Panthers welcome UNC Asheville to Vert Stadium with a 4-6-3 overall record and a 2-1-2 mark in league play. They are currently in a tie for fifth place in the Big South with eight points.

Skyler Prillaman and Alex Denny lead the Panther offense, as both have combined for nine of the team's 18 goals. Prillaman paces the HPU squad with 12 total points. Caitlin Shepherd is the final Panther with multiple goals this year, as she has tallied three goals in her rookie campaign.

High Point has used three different goalkeepers this year, and all three have totaled 200 or more minutes between the posts. Emily Lyon has played in 12 games and sports an impressive 0.79 goals against average, while Talia Klimes has appeared in 10 games and totes a 1.14 goals against average. The Panther goalkeepers have a combined 4-4-3 record when in goal.

Last Time Out Versus the Panthers

In last year's head-to-head contest the Bulldogs handed the Panthers their first Big South loss of the year. UNC Asheville edged HPU, 1-0, behind a goal from Caroline Houser in the 11th minute.

Both teams combined for 17 shots with six on frame. UNC Asheville's goalkeeper Bryson Lee only had to make one save in last year's contest.

What's Next?

The Bulldogs return to Greenwood Field on Wednesday, Oct. 10, as they open a two-game home stretch. The midweek game is against Winthrop and will start at 6 p.m.
