UNC Asheville Welcomes Gardner-Webb to Greenwood Field on Wednesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team returns home on Oct. 2, as the Bulldogs welcome Gardner-Webb to Greenwood Field.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

About UNC Asheville

The Bulldogs enter the midweek home contest with a 1-5-3 overall record and a 0-2-1 mark in Big South contests. In the last three home games, UNC Asheville is a respectable 1-1-1. 

UNC Asheville played well in its last game, despite being upended, 1-0, at Charleston Southern. The Bulldogs put in solid minutes and posted the highest amount of shots in a road game this year (12).

Gillian Oyos continues to be the team leader in goals, as the rookie has a pair to her name. Four other Bulldogs have tallied a goal this year - Kyra Kandel, Emily Dueñas, Skyler Chillson and Justine James.

In net Courtney O'Malley has started all three conference games this year. Overall O'Malley has started five games and has played 510 minutes. She sports a 1.06 goals against average and has corralled 47 saves. 

Scouting Gardner-Webb

Gardner-Webb enters the contest at Greenwood Field with a 5-4-2 overall record and a 2-1 mark in league games. In road games, the Runnin' Bulldogs are 0-3 with losses to East Carolina, UNCG and Appalachian State.

The GWU offense is led by Jada Newton and Stina Kleppe, as both have combined for 10 of the team's 20 goals this season. Newton has six goals, as she has netted a goal in six different contests. Kleppe scored all four of her goals this year in four straight games - Navy, Appalachian State, Eastern Kentucky and Marshall. 

Maddie Turlington and Sleppe have paced the squad in assists this year, as they have combined for nine of the team's 17 assists. 

Keely Brown has started all 11 games in goal this year. She has totaled over 983 minutes of action and sports a 1.37 goals against average. She has faced 138 total shots and has made 51 total saves.

Last Time Out Versus the Runnin' Bulldogs

The last time the two Bulldog squads faced off was at the end of the season last year. Both squads played to a 1-1 tie in Boiling Springs, N.C. Emma Houser scored the game's first goal, but GWU's Annie Ross scored three minutes later, which sealed the tie.

What's Next?
