Bulldogs Sweep Charleston Southern on Friday Night at the Justice Center

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville picked up a dominating 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-21) Big South victory over Charleston Southern on Friday, Oct. 19 at the Justice Center.
UNC Asheville (7-11, 2-6 Big South) started the match strongly by pulling away for a 25-20 win in the opening set. In the second set the Bulldogs had complete control in a 25-13 win. In the third set, UNC Asheville looked to be racing to an easy win, but Charleston Southern (9-7, 4-4 Big South) battled back to make the score look closer than it was in the set in a 25-21 Bulldog win that clinched the sweep.
The Bulldogs were led in the sweep of Charleston Southern by Cara Guthrie's 15 kills and 11 digs. Guthrie hit an impressive .371 in the match.
Grace Volk paced the Bulldogs offensively with a career-best 29 assists. She just missed on a double-double of her own with eight digs.
The league leader in conference matches in digs per set, Madisen Zyburt put together another strong performance with 15 digs.
The Bulldogs had three with two solo blocks each in Cecilia Stack, Julia Loveday and Guthrie. Stack led the Bulldogs with three blocks overall.
Julia Borges collected three service aces for UNC Asheville in the match.
Charleston Southern was led by Brooke Monssen's nine kills. Madison Martin tied Zyburt for match-high honors with 15 digs.

Zyburt Surpasses 1,000 Digs in a Bulldog Uniform
She already surpassed 1,000 digs in her career earlier this season, but Madisen Zyburt's 15 digs in the sweep of Charleston Southern allowed her to pick up 1,000 digs as a Bulldog. She now has 1,001 digs in a UNC Asheville uniform entering tomorrow's match against Presbyterian College. Including her freshman season at Carson-Newman, Zyburt now has 1,163 digs in her career.
Double It Up
Cara Guthrie's 15 kills and 11 digs in the sweep of Charleston Southern allowed her to pick up her fifth double-double of the 2018 season.

"The team came out tonight wanting to prove something and our players are proving that they are not happy with where they are in the standings and that they want to change it," UNC Asheville volleyball head coach Frederico Santos said after the Bulldog win. "Tonight, they worked very, very hard and they deserved this performance. They deserved this result, but tomorrow we've got another one and this is what Big South play is all about."
