Box Score

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team dropped its first match of the season on Saturday afternoon in a 7-0 loss at Charlotte.

The match opened with tightly contested matches at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Henry Patten and Olly Cull narrowly fell 6-4 to Constandions Christoforou and Luca Keist at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Charlotte's Sam Rice and Benjamin Wayand were barely able to pick up the win over UNC Asheville's Edward Colclough and Oli Nolan.

After the narrow win to take the doubles point, Charlotte (4-2) would go on to sweep all of the singles matches, but once again it would not be easy for the 49ers, particularly at No. 1 and No. 4 singles.

In an upset, Keist bested nationally 43rd-ranked Patten of UNC Asheville, 7-6 (9-7), 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) at No. 1 singles. Colclough just missed on the win at No. 4 singles in a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) loss to Charlotte's Wayand.

Impressive Streak Comes to End
Junior Henry Patten saw his incredibly impressive unbeaten regular season winning streak in singles come to an end in his loss to Keist. Patten's last loss in regular season play entering the match at Charlotte had been during his freshman season in 2016 on March 13, 2016. The reigning Big South Player of the Year was a perfect 19-0 during the regular season as a sophomore in 2017.

Quotable
"Charlotte is a very strong team this year and they were too good for us today. I think we fought well in most spots and there were certainly some promising things to take away from a difficult match." - Head Coach Tom Hand
