ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Hoping to end its two-game road stretch undefeated, the UNC Asheville women's basketball team travels to Charleston Southern on Jan. 23 for a 7 p.m. tip off inside the Buc Dome. 

About UNC Asheville

UNC Asheville, who is one game away from being .500 for the first time this season, downed Winthrop 70-48 on Saturday afternoon in Rock Hill, S.C. With the win, the Bulldogs moved to 8-9 overall and 5-1 in the Big South including winners of four straight games - the longest winning streak this year. 

Bronaza Fitzgerald notched two single-game career bests as she totaled 20 points and 17 rebounds versus the Eagles. The senior concluded the game going 7-for-11 from the field as she matched a single-game career high in field goals made. With two career-best marks in points and rebounds, she recorded her 10th career double-double. 

In the road game, Zip Scott poured in a career-best 13 points as she went 6-for-9 from the field. The six made field goals bested her previous career best by one. She added six rebounds and a pair of assists in the 22-point victory. Amaryah Corpening, who scored seven of her points in the second half, broke a personal best by netting nine points. The freshman also went a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe, which is also a new personal record for the Morganton, N.C. native. 

Jessica Wall finished the contest at Winthrop with nine points as she shot 50 percent from the field (4-for- 8), and senior forward Tiffany Wilson grabbed six rebounds and a pair of steals. Khaila Webb, Brooke Jordan-Brown and Ali Trani all tallied a pair of field goals in the contest. 

In the last five road contests (Wofford, USC Upstate, Campbell, Radford and Winthrop), the Bulldogs are 4-1 including winners of four straight. The Bulldogs are averaging 68.2 points per game while holding opponents to 59.2 ppg (+9.0 scoring margin). More impressively, Asheville is averaging 10 more rebounds than opponents as it has out-rebounded opponents 188-138 during that same stretch. 

In that same stretch, the Bulldogs have also been dominant in the second half as they have out-scored their opponents 190-152 in the final 20 minutes of play. 

Fitzgerald and Wall have been the backbone to the Bulldog success in the last five road contests as each have averaged over 14 points per game. Fitzgerald has averaged 15.6 ppg while Wall has averaged 14.2 ppg. More impressively, Fitzgerald is averaging a double-double as she averages 12 rpg. Wall is leading UNC Asheville in assists with 16 and steals with six. The duo are also shooting above .560 percent from the field (Fitzgerald - .652 percent and Wall - .563). 

Scouting the Bucs

Charleston Southern enters the mid-week contest with a 7-10 overall record and a 2-4 mark in league play. At home, they are 6-3 as opposed to 1-6 on the road.

The Bucs have lost four of their last five games with three of the contests being on the road. Their lone win in the last five contests was an 81-45 victory at home versus Winthrop.

Njeri Nelms holds the team-lead in points per game as she averages 9.6, but right behind her is Rachel Burns with 9.1 ppg. Weknyne Dumorne is pacing the squad with 6.8 rebounds per game and 2.3 blocks per contest, and Lexii Cassell and Burns are the only two players who have started all 17 games this year for Charleston Southern.

All-Time History Versus Charleston Southern

Tuesday's contest marks the 67th all-time meeting between the two clubs with Charleston Southern holding a 35-31 advantage. 

Last year the two clubs split during the regular season as each team won at home. Charleston Southern won inside the Buc Dome 73-66 while Asheville won 56-47 inside Kimmel Arena. 

In last year's game in Charleston, Chatori Major totaled 18 points as she went 6-for-17 from the field. Current Bulldogs, Wall and Fitzgerald added double-digits in points as Wall scored 16 and Fitzgerald poured in 11. Fitzgerald grabbed seven rebounds including five offensive board while Sonora Dengokl posted seven boards of her own.
