LEXINGTON, Va. – To conclude the final day of the Keydet Invitational, the UNC Asheville track and field teams broke the 4 x 400m indoor program record as the Bulldogs wrapped up competition in Lexington, Va. on Saturday.

Highlights

The biggest highlight for the Bulldogs on the final day of the Keydet Invitational was Asheville breaking the 4 x 400m indoor program record. The record was set last year where Tyree McFalling, Chase Stevens, Matthew Barrera and Matthew Harding set the school record with a time of 3:21.92. This season two of the same Bulldogs - McFalling and Harding - along with the additions of Hunter Koike and Kimani Anderson broke the record again with a 3:19.38. The time was good enough for fifth place out of 22 teams.

After his recording-breaking performance in the triple jump yesterday, Victor Mathuthu posted another strong distance in the men's long jump on Saturday. With a leap of 6.48m, he finished 10th out of 24 athletes.

Heather Grober finished 21st in the women's 400m as she was just over one second away from cracking the top 15 in the 43-person field. She recorded a 1:01.40, which is a top mark for the Bulldogs this season.

In the men's 3000m, sophomore Graham Parker placed 23rd with a 9:11.98.

Asia Washington had a strong leap in the women's long jump (4.95m) as she recorded a top mark for the Bulldogs this year.

Three Bulldogs went in order in the men's 200m as Anderson led the trio with a 22.91, which was good enough for 29th place. McFalling and Robert Brenneman finished in order behind the junior as they were within milliseconds of each another.

Quotable

"I felt like we had a good meet this weekend. We were able to get school records in the men's triple jump and 4 x 400m along with the number two all-time in the men's 60m and a number five all-time in the distance medley relay. We've got some things to clean up technically, but I feel that we are in a good spot going into our short break from meets."

- Head coach Jesse Norman -

What's Next?

The Bulldogs will return to Virginia in two weeks as they will compete in the Flames D1 Invitational, which is hosted by Liberty. The two-day meet begins on Feb. 2 inside the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
