Host Bulldogs Close Out Strong Weekend at WNC Mountain Challenge

UNC Asheville Full Day Two Results

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville's women's tennis team continued their fall campaign at the WNC Mountain Challenge with great tennis on day two.

UNC Asheville proudly hosted Kennesaw State University, Western Carolina University and USC Upstate at the blue home courts of Asheville for the dual-match-formatted, WNC Mountain Challenge.

Day two started off with singles play where junior Christin Louw stayed undefeated on the weekend by winning both of her matches against USC Upstate's No. 3, Noelia Acuna, 6-2, 6-2, and Kennesaw State's No. 3, Laura Hopton, 7-6, 6-4. Sophomore Emily Sidor kept her momentum and bested USC Upstate's No. 5, Elin Hellberg, 1-6, 6-0, 10-6, and Kennesaw State's No. 5, Aspen Jarret 6-2, 6-3.

Junior Madeline Finley played great tennis and won her first match of the day, 7-6, 6-3. Finley continued her strong play going into her second match, but was defeated after a long fight, 1-6, 6-2, 9-11, by Kennesaw State's Brenna Reilly.

Junior Hannah Francisco bested USC Upstate's No. 2, Vale Zarama, 6-3, 6-2. Sophomore Lauren Watson-Steele played a solid match against Kennesaw State's No. 2, Kennedy Craig, and won 7-5, 6-3. Â Â

Sophomore transfer Morgan Ingram had her UNC Asheville debut in singles as she bested Kennesaw State's Jada Tijani, 6-2, 6-1. Â Â

Junior Kylee Shipley won her second match of the day by beating Kennesaw State's No. 1 Alexandra Mercado in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.

Going into doubles the Bulldog No. 1 pair Kylee Shipley and Hannah Francisco fell to Western Carolina's No. 1 duo, Savannah Taranto and Jordan Strickland, 4-6. Christin Louw and Emily Sidor stayed undefeated, beating Western Carolina's No. 2 duo, Alexa Webb and Lauren McCall, 6-1.

After a solid weekend, the UNC Asheville women's tennis team will next return to the practice courts on Tuesday, as they will prepare for their second fall tournament at Wake Forrest.
