Women's Tennis Earns Fifth Seed at Big South Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The UNC Asheville women's tennis team has earned the No. 5 seed in next week's Big South Women's Tennis Championship. The Bulldogs finished the 2017 regular-season with a 10-9 overall record and a 4-4 record in the Big South.
The Winthrop Eagles claimed the No. 1 seed, finishing the season with a 7-1 Big South record. The Eagles shared the regular-season championship with Charleston Southern and Liberty, but won the top spot from the tiebreakers.
Asheville will meet the No. 4 seeded Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs on Friday, April 21, in the quarterfinals. The match is scheduled to start at high noon. Asheville fell to Gardner-Web, 4-3, earlier this season on March 9.
The 2017 Big South Women's Tennis Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting will be held at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on the campus of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. The event begins Thursday, April 20, with one first round match and concludes with the championship contest on Sunday, April 23. The Big South's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship.
