04.12.2017 | Women's Tennis

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UNC Asheville women's tennis player Lauren Watson-Steele has been named this week's Come Ready Nutrition Freshman of the Week as announced earlier today by the Big South Conference office.

The honor is the second weekly honor of the year for Watson-Steele as she was chosen as the Big South Player of the Week on Jan. 18.

"I was pleased with Lauren's performance this weekend, especially since she has been out with an injury," UNC Asheville women's tennis head coach Lise Gregory said.

Watson-Steele, a Cambridgeshire, England, native, went undefeated over the past weekend, winning both doubles and singles matches against Presbyterian College.

Paired with Hunter Hall at No. 2 doubles, Watson-Steele helped lift the Bulldogs to a doubles sweep over the Blue Hose with a hard-fought 7-5 triumph.

In singles play, Watson-Steele came out victorious over Presbyterian's No. 3 seeded Demi Henschel, winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Watson-Steele and the Bulldogs will return to action next week when they travel to Winston-Salem for the Big South Championships which is scheduled for April 20-23. The league office will announce the seedings for the tournament on Saturday, April 15.
