CHARLOTTE, N.C.—UNC Asheville's women's tennis player Emily Sidor has been named the Come Ready Nutrition Big South Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017.

Sidor, a freshman from Rockledge, Fla., went 2-1 in both singles and doubles play this past weekend, defeating foes from both Emmanuel College and Kennesaw State.

Paired with Christin Louw at the No. 3 doubles position, Sidor defeated the duo of Pearllan Cipriano and Victoria Silva from Emmanuel College, 6-2. Sidor and Louw then went on to top Kennesaw State's Kennedy Craig and Aspen Jarrett, 6-2, as well.

At the No. 6 singles slot, Sidor was nearly perfect in her match against Emmanuel's Abi Muesse as she managed to win the match without dropping one game, 6-0, 6-0. On Monday, the freshman rallied from one set down to a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, victory over Kennesaw State's Jessica Cantrell to clinch the match for the Bulldogs.

"Emily had a great weekend," head coach Lise Gregory claimed. "She is learning fast what it takes to be successful in college tennis."

Sidor is now 4-1 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles competitions on the season.

Sidor and the UNC Asheville women's tennis team will next return to action when they play host to the Radford Highlanders, this Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Asheville Racquet Club. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
