KENNESAW, Ga. - The UNC Asheville women's tennis team stretched to a two-match winning streak with their 5-2 victory over the Kennesaw State Owls Monday afternoon at Betty Siegel Courts.

The afternoon began with Asheville winning the doubles competition and taking an early 1-0 lead. Action on court No. 3 wrapped up first with Christin Louw and Emily Sidor topping Kennedy Craig and Aspen Jarrett, 6-2. The No. 2 seeded Lauren Watson-Steele and Hunter Hall clinched the doubles point by downing Laura Hopton and Jada Tijani, 6-4. Play on court No. 3 was left unfinished as the Bulldogs had already seized the doubles point.

The Owls evened the score at 1-1 when No. 4 Louw fell to Hopton, 6-4, 6-1. No. 5 Hall regained the lead for the Bulldogs when she defeated Jarrett, 6-3, 6-1. After a hard-fought first set, No. 1 seeded Hannah Francisco bested Perez Martin, 7-6, 6-1. Despite battling back on court No. 2, Watson-Steele lost to Mercado, 7-6, 0-6, 6-4. No. 6 Sidor clinched the match with a thrilling 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, comeback over Jessica Cantrell. The afternoon concluded with No. 3 Shipley defeating Craig in an exciting three setter, 7-5, 6-7, 7-5.

BULLDOG BITES
FRANCISCO STARTS STRONG: With today's victory, the Bulldogs' No. 1 singles performer Hannah Francisco improves to 6-3 on the season. The sophomore from Marietta, Ga., is now riding a three-match winning streak.

FRESHMAN FOCUSED: Bulldog freshman Emily Sidor continued her strong start to her collegiate career with her 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, victory at the No. 6 singles position today. Sidor is now 4-1 on the season in singles play and 2-1 in doubles competition.

GOING THE DISTANCE: Sophomore Kylee Shipley has shown her resiliency this year as five of her 10 matches have gone a full three sets. Shipley is not only 7-3 on the season in singles play, but 4-1 in matches that have gone the full three sets.

UP NEXT 
The Bulldogs will return home from their road swing to host conference foe, Radford University, Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Asheville Racquet Club. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
