McDevitt Makes Impact for Great Cause at Local Subway

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Five Bulldogs finished in double figures as UNC Asheville picked up its fourth straight win in a 91-73 victory over Charleston Southern on Wednesday evening at Kimmel Arena.

Winners of nine of its last 10, UNC Asheville (17-7, 9-2 Big South Conference) led for 38:11 of the game with Charleston Southern (7-15, 3-8 Big South Conference) picking up its only lead of the game just 15 seconds into the contest. From there though it would be all Bulldogs with Asheville taking a 44-34 lead into the halftime break.

The Bulldogs would go ahead by as many as 23 points before collecting the 18-point victory over the Buccaneers.

Junior guard Kevin Vannatta picked up the first double-double of his Bulldog career in the win over Charleston Southern with 11 points and 11 rebounds. He also had two assists, two steals and one block.

One of the top all-around players in the Big South Conference and really the country, junior guard Ahmad Thomas closed out Asheville's win with 25 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Senior Bulldog sharpshooter David Robertson finished his evening with five three-pointers en route to 16 points.

Junior forward Alec Wnuk concluded his night with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Bulldogs, while junior guard Raekwon Miller had 10 points. Miller was 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.

The Buccaneers had five players in double figures as well in the loss to the Bulldogs with Armel Potter, Christian Keeling and Cortez Mitchell each scoring 14.

As a team, UNC Asheville shot 49.2 percent (31-of-63) in the win over the Buccaneers. The Bulldogs were especially strong at the free throw line in the game where they were 21-of-25 (84 percent).

Charleston Southern shot 48.3 percent (28-for-58) as a team in its loss, but the Bulldogs held the Buccaneers to just 5-of-17 (29.4 percent) shooting as a team from beyond the arc.

SURGING TOWARDS 1,000: With his 25 points in the win over Charleston Southern, Bulldog junior guard Ahmad Thomas passed the 900-point plateau. He now has 921 career points.

HOME SWEET HOME: UNC Asheville is currently in the midst of a six-game home winning streak. The Bulldogs are 10-1 on the year at home. UNC Asheville after the win over Charleston Southern is now 65-16 all-time at Kimmel Arena, including 45-10 in Big South Conference contests.

A LOOK AT THE LEAGUE: UNC Asheville remains tied with Winthrop (17-5, 9-2 Big South Conference) and Liberty (14-10, 9-2 Big South Conference) for the Big South Conference lead.
