Harding Wins the One Mile as the Bulldogs Wrap Up Competition at JDL College Kickoff

MEET RESULTS
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Highlighted by a first place finish by Matthew Harding in the one mile and a second place finish by Dominic Collichio in the 3000m, the UNC Asheville men's and women's indoor track & field teams concluded its competition at the JDL College Kickoff on Saturday.
Meet Highlights
The Bulldogs started the day red hot as Kayli Nichols posted a seventh place finish in the prelims of the 60m hurdles (9.07). Khalina Boyce rounded out the top 20 finishes for Asheville as she placed 17th with a 9.42. With her berth to the finals, Nichols shaved off 0.05 seconds from her preliminary round as she finished fourth in the 60mH finals.
In the women's 3000m, two Bulldogs posted great finishes in Kelley Coleman and Megan Brewer as the duo finished in the top 10. Coleman placed fifth with a 10:48.21, which is a personal record for the junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, and with a time of 11:07.89, Brewer also set a personal best as she finished ninth.
On the men's side of the 3000m, UNC Asheville had three Bulldogs –Collichio, Zach Boone and Thomas Little - place in the top 10. Collichio paced the squad as senior posted runner-up status with an 8:39.27. Boone and Little finished ninth and tenth, respectively, as Boone posted a 9:02.12 and Little recorded a 9:04.29.
Senior Hunter Koike recorded a strong finish in the 60m as the St. Augustine, Fla. native tallied a 7.059 in the preliminary round.
Heather Grober posted a top 25 finish in the 400m as the freshman tallied a 1:01.80 in her first collegiate meet.
Matthew Barrera paced UNC Asheville in the 800m as he posted a top 15 finish (11th) with a 2:00.78. Sage Turner finished in the top 20 as the sophomore placed 17th with a 2:01.78.
Koike continued his success in Winston-Salem as he finished seventh in the 200m at 22.45. That time was only 0.72 seconds slower than his personal best in the event. Tyree McFalling finished 29th as he posted a 23.17 time.
In the women's one mile, senior Maddie Lowe recorded a 5:34.35, which placed her sixth in the 25-person field.
The biggest highlight of the meet was sophomore Matthew Harding's first place finish in the men's one mile. The North Wales native out-raced the competition with a 4:17.84, which was nearly a second faster than the second place finisher. Blanton Gillespie also finished in the top 5 as he clocked a 4:31.68, and Jacob Todd capped off the top 15 finishes for the Bulldogs as he finished 15th with a 4:39.55.
McFalling, Koike, Kimani Anderson and Robert Brennenan were the four runners for the Bulldogs in the 4 x 400 as they finished sixth with a 3:27.83.
In the field events, Chris McKoy had one of the best finishes as the junior finished 13th in the men's triple jump. He recorded a 12.90m, which was his fifth all-time best mark in the event.

What's Next for the Track & Field Teams?
The Bulldogs' next event will be in Johnson City, Tenn. as the two indoor squads with travel to ETSU to compete in the ETSU Invitational on Jan. 12-13.
