UNC Asheville Travels to Tennessee to Compete in ETSU Invitational

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Following winter break, the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams return to competition on Jan. 12 and 13 as the Bulldogs travel to Johnson City, Tenn. to compete in the ETSU Invitational.
Last Time Out
The last meet the Bulldogs competed in was on Dec. 2 as they traveled to Wake Forest to compete in the JDL College Kickoff. The biggest highlight of the meet was a first place finish by sophomore Matthew Harding in the men's one mile run. He clocked in at 4:17.84, which was nearly a second faster than the runner-up finisher. Two Bulldogs – Blanton Gillespie and Jacob Todd - also finished in the top 15 in the same event.
Kelley Coleman and Megan Brewer had strong performances in the women's 3000m as the duo finished in the top 10. Coleman placed fifth with a 10:48.21, which is a personal record for the junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, and with a time of 11:07.89, Brewer also set a personal best as she finished ninth.
Maddie Lowe also posted a strong finish as she clocked a 5:34.35 in the women's one mile. The senior from Concord, N.C. finished sixth in the 25-person field.
About The Meet
The ETSU Invitational is a two-day event, which is hosted by East Tennessee State University. The first event on Friday, Jan. 12 is the weight throw at 9 a.m., and the first running event commences at 10:15 a.m. with the women's 60m hurdles. Friday's final event will be the men's 5k at 5:45 p.m.
On Saturday, the women's 3k will be the first event, and the meet will conclude with the men's 4 x 400m. There will be eight finals on Sunday - men's and women's 400m, 60m, 60mH and 200m.
The two-day meet will be held in the Mountain States Health Alliance Athletics Center, which is a multi-sport facility and home of several administrative offices.
