Track & Field Commences 2017-18 Indoor Season at Wake Forest on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's and women's indoor track and field teams will commence its 2017-18 season on Saturday as the Bulldogs travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete in the JDL College Kickoff.
About The Bulldogs
UNC Asheville returns a plethora of experienced athletes along with 17 newcomers for the upcoming season – nine men and eight women.
Of the experienced male athletes, sophomore Matthew Harding headlines the returnees. In the Big South Indoor Championships last year, Harding won the 800 final as well as a third place finish in the 4 x 400. Hunter Koike also had a successful campaign last year where he bested two personal records in the 60m (7:05 – at the ETSU Track & Field Invitational) and the 60mH (8:83 – at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic).
On the women's side, there are eight total newcomers along with 10 returners from last season. Three members of the women's squad are seniors – Phoebe Schneider, Kayli Nichols and Maddie Lowe. Nichols had one of her best indoor seasons last year where she set personal records in five events – 60m, 200m, 500m, 800m and 60mH. Out of the trio, Schneider had the best distance season last year where she posted personal records in the 1000m, mile and 3000m.
About The Meet
The JDL College Kickoff is a one-day event and will last for most of the day on Saturday. The Bulldogs have competed in this meet each of the last four seasons.
Last year at this event, the Bulldogs had seven top 15 finishes in Harding, Chilton Birdwhistell, Tyree McFalling, Chase Stevens, Jason Perry, Desire Brown, Nichols, Lowe and Argia Gibson.
