ASHEVILLE, N.C. – In its first mid-week game of the season, the UNC Asheville women's basketball team will travel to in-state foe NC State on Wednesday, Nov. 15 inside the Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

BULLDOG BITES

About UNC Asheville

The Bulldogs opened their season on the road as they traveled to Cullowhee, N.C. to square off with Western Carolina. Despite Asheville defeating WCU by nine points a year ago, the Catamounts avenged the loss with a 10-point victory on Sunday inside the Ramsey Center. For the Bulldogs, they had two players post double-digits in points – Khaila Webb (12) and Kelli Fisher (10). Sophomore junior college transfer Juliet Esadah paced the team with nine rebounds, while Fisher was second on the squad with six boards. Five Bulldogs recorded a steal against the Catamounts as WCU only could force two in the Sunday showdown.

Despite Asheville dropping to 0-1 after its first game, the team has done so the last two seasons, and the Bulldogs finished both years as Big South Champions.

At the Big South Conference Media Day, the Bulldogs were selected to finish fifth, despite receiving the second-highest amount of first-place votes in the league. Radford earned seven of the total first-place votes as the Highlanders were selected the win the league.

The regular season home opener is scheduled for Nov. 18 as the Bulldogs host Charlotte for a 2 p.m. start. UNC Asheville opens its conference portion of the schedule on Jan. 2 at Campbell followed by the conference home opener on Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. versus High Point.

Scouting NC State

Already heading into its third game of the season, NC State is a perfect 2-0 on the year. They defeated Jacksonville (64-44) and Davidson (73-49) as both games were held inside the Reynolds Coliseum.

In their hot start, the Wolfpack has three players this year averaging double-digits in points per game – Chelsea Nelson (19.5), Lucky Rudd (12.0) and Akela Maize (12.5). As a team, they have totaled 17 more assists, forced 11 more turnovers, made 22 more field goals and grabbed nine more rebounds than the opposition this season. The Wolfpack's scoring margin is an astounding 22 points as they have allowed just 46.5 points per game. NC State also dominates the first and fourth quarters as they have out-scored opponents by a combined 35 points, so the Wolfpack likes to get out to an early lead and finish strong.

Wednesday's game in Raleigh will mark the fifth all-time meeting between the two teams. The most recent meeting was during the 1998-99 season. In the 1987-88, UNC Asheville hosted NC State for the first time ever, but the Bulldogs couldn't pull off the upset as they fell 69-56 in Asheville.

Looking back at last season, NC State posted an impressive season (23-9), which earned it an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament despite being bounced out of the ACC Tournament in the quarterfinal round against Louisville. However, they attempted a run in the NCAA Tournament as the Wolfpack defeated Auburn in the first round by 14 points, but NC State was upended in the next round 84-80 by nationally-ranked Texas.
