Successful Sunday for Bulldogs on Final Day of Wake Forest Invitational
10.08.2017 | Women's Tennis
Final Singles Draw
Final Doubles Draw
**Story and behind-the-scenes insight from day three of the event from senior Amalie Davidsen, who also won her bracket in the main draw this weekend**Â
I never felt so much like home when we pulled up in front of Mills to drop off Anastasia Horvat and Emily Sidor. The trip to and from Wake Forest is not long nor bad, but after three days with lots of tennis, hotel rooms, early starts and late endings, the excitement when driving up the mountains was difficult to hide. Traveling is always something to look forward to – the team bonding, competing and quality time we have, as a team is irreplaceable – I am sure each and every UNC Asheville team can relate to this.
Â
I woke up at 1 a.m. this morning beyond exited when I checked my phone to see Coach Lise Gregory had changed our departure to the tennis courts from 7:10- to 7:40 a.m. Christin Louw and I went to breakfast early before the rest of our team came along to join, and we left the hotel shortly after.
Â
First singles match on was Emily Sidor who went up against a strong player from Virginia Tech. Although playing well, focusing on the process of staying aggressive with her footwork, Emily lost the first set. She fought back and outlasted her opponent after being down with several match points in the deciding match-tie-break before she claimed it 13-11, to also win her draw. This is a big win for Emily, who has worked hard adjusting to become more aggressive, but also a great win for our program.
Â
Anastasia Horvat aka "nugget," continued her impressive winning streak, staying undefeated. She outlasted a solid player from Appalachian State in a deciding match-tiebreak, which she claimed 10-6, to win her draw. Anastasia has really proven her mental strength this weekend playing well on important and deciding points and we are all very proud of what she has already accomplished as a Bulldog.
Â
I am not going to lie. I have not been this tired since last time UNC Asheville women's tennis was at Wake Forest competing at the Big South semifinals, and even though competing is one of the best things I know, nothing beats being home in Asheville. Good night! Â Â Â
