UNC Asheville Women's Tennis Travels to Wofford Invite This Weekend

10.26.2017 | Women's Tennis

**Preview story and behind-the-scenes insight ahead of the Wofford Invite by senior Amalie Davidsen**

I am sitting in my bed with a cup of tea. My roommate is cooking dinner, and the dark of the night has gotten here early tonight.

It is getting cold outside; the birds have stopped singing, the leaves have begun to transform, and it seems that fall is coming to stay for good. Practice has been hard, but we have enjoyed the last bit of sun this past week at the blue tennis courts while getting ready for our concluding fall tournament at Wofford. Honestly, I cannot believe this is going to be my very last fall tournament representing UNC Asheville, but it has started to sink in.

We are leaving Friday morning. Coach is going to pull up in the little, but very charming rented van, where we all just fit. As I said before, the car rides are always memorable, and is a good time to bond with each other as a team.

We are playing at Wofford, S.C. – a tournament I have played since my freshman year, which is always fun. We have worked hard this past week, especially with doubles. Coach has changed up the teams, and therefore it is going to be very interesting to see how the new arrangements work. Playing against other teams is the perfect way of practicing new doubles teams prior to season, where we have to be strong as a whole.

I know we are all exited to get on the road again to compete and work on our individual games. I am also very exited to see how we do this weekend when we are competing against teams, such as Gardner-Webb, USC Upstate and Wofford. I know we will all do the absolute best that we can and work hard to be successful this weekend.

Good night!

BULLDOG BITES

Fall Season

UNC Asheville's second event of the fall saw the Bulldogs compete at the Wake Forest Invitational. It was a very strong few days for the Bulldogs. To see the day one recap, please click HERE. The second day highlights, which included a doubles win over Virginia, can be seen HERE. The final day highlights can be viewed HERE. All three stories were written by Davidsen.

This weekend's Wofford Invite at the Reeves Tennis Center will be the final tournament of the fall for the Bulldogs.

All-Academic
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) named the UNC Asheville women's tennis team as an All-Academic Team, while five Bulldogs were tabbed Scholar-Athletes for the 2016-17 season.

The UNC Asheville women's tennis team achieved a 3.509 team grade-point average (GPA) for the 2016-17 year, which qualified them for the ITA All-Academic Team award. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.

Madeline Finley, Hunter Hall, Christin Louw, Caroline Sherrer and Emily Sidor were the five Bulldogs that obtained ITA Scholar-Athlete status as they each achieved a GPA of at least 3.50 for the academic year.
