Potent Bulldog Offense Meets Strong Longwood Defense on Saturday at Home

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team returns home on Oct. 14 as the potent Bulldog offense looks to take down the strong Longwood defense at Greenwood Field.

Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Lancers is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Women's soccer hosts Longwood for its annual "Kick for a Cure: Breast Cancer Awareness Game". It's also World Pup Day, so bring your dogs to the match to join UNC Asheville's mascot Rocky in the puppy play zone.

About UNC Asheville

The Bulldogs are red-hot at Greenwood Field as they have won two straight matches on their home turf including handing High Point its first Big South Conference loss of the season in shutout fashion.

Asheville is 6-7-1 on the year and 2-3 in league play including a 2-0 record at home against conference rivals.

UNC Asheville's offense has been the focal point in the previous four matches as it has averaged two goals a game. During that stretch, Courtney Naber and Caroline Houser have each netted a pair of goals, while Katie Tuorto, Skyler Chillson and Rachel Snyder have each tallied one.

The Bulldogs have scored 19 times this year from nine different players. Naber continues to lead the squad with six, and Houser and Chillson each have three on the year. While in home matches, Naber and Houser have each scored three goals, and four other Bulldogs have netted one goal.

In all six wins, Asheville has out-scored opponents 13-6. Defensively, the Bulldogs have allowed one goal per contest, and freshman goalkeeper Bryson Lee sports a 0.98 goals against average in 549:44 minutes in goal.

Scouting Longwood

Longwood enters the weekend showdown with a 9-4-2 overall record and a 4-1-1 Big South mark.

The Lancers have one of the strongest defenses in the Big South and the country. Senior goalkeeper Maria Kirby is 10th in the nation in shutouts (8), 14th in minutes played (1412:08), 15th in save percentage (0.875) and 21st in goals against average (0.574). While sporting a 9-4-2 overall record, Kirby has corralled 63 saves while facing 170 total shots.

As an offense, the Lancers have out-scored (16-9) and out-shot (243-173) opponents in 15 games this year. Longwood has a three-way tie for first in goals scored (Emilie Kupsov, Sheyenne Stretz and Emily Mothersbaugh) as the trio have each netted three goals. Kupsov leads the squad with 10 points as she has also tallied four assists this year.

In Big South contests, Longwood has held conference rivals scoreless in four matches, and the team is currently on a five-game undefeated streak. Their last defeat was in their conference opener versus High Point where Longwood was edged 1-0 at home.
