Bulldogs Pick Up 11th Straight Win Over Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Behind another lethal night from David Robertson beyond the arc the UNC Asheville men's basketball team picked up its 11th straight win over Liberty in a 70-57 win over the Flames at the Vines Center on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017.
The Bulldogs (10-6, 2-1 Big South Conference) led for the majority of the game with Asheville leading for 18:31 in the first half. The Bulldogs held their largest lead of the game at 34-18 with 3:17 left in the first half.
Asheville's 36-25 11-point lead at halftime would be more than enough for the Bulldogs as they outscored the Flames, 34-32, in the second half to procure the 13-point victory.
Asheville closed out its win over Liberty shooting 47.1 percent (24-of-51) as a team. The Bulldogs knocked down 45 percent (9-of-20) of their three-point attempts in the contest.
Liberty (7-9, 2-1 Big South Conference) closed out its 11th consecutive loss to the Bulldogs shooting 42 percent (21-of-50) as a team.
Robertson led four Bulldogs in double figures in the game with a game-high 20 points. He was 6-of-9 (66.7 percent) from beyond the arc in the Bulldog win.
The reigning Big South Conference Freshman of the Week, MaCio Teague closed out his efforts with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and one steal. He was 6-of-9 from the field in the game.
Alec Wnuk was very proficient off the bench for the Bulldogs in their win, obtaining 15 points, five rebounds and one assist in 18 minutes played. He was 7-of-10 from the field.
The final Bulldog in double figures was Ahmad Thomas, who ended his night with 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal.
Ryan Kemrite led the Flames in their loss with 17 points.
BULLDOG BITES
A HUGE LIFT: Robertson has been a huge spark for the Bulldogs during the start of conference play. Robertson entered Big South Conference play averaging 3.8 points per game in 14 minutes per game. In UNC Asheville's conference opener at Radford, Robertson scored 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting in 29 minutes played. Robertson collected a career-best 23 points, including seven three-pointers, in UNC Asheville's home overtime win over Gardner-Webb. Robertson was 8-of-14 from the field overall in the Bulldog win. In the win over Liberty, Robertson was 6-of-9 from beyond the arc in finishing with 20 points.
STRONG DEFENSIVELY: The Bulldogs held a normally solid Liberty team from beyond the arc to just 25 percent shooting (6-of-24) on their three-point attempts. The Bulldogs forced Liberty into 11 turnovers with Asheville scoring 19 points off of the turnovers.
HUGE PRODUCTION OFF THE BENCH: Asheville's bench behind the 15 points from Wnuk outscored the Flames, 20-0, in bench points.
NOT START TO FINISH (BUT CLOSE): UNC Asheville held the lead in the win over Liberty for 38:35. Liberty held the lead for just 17 seconds.
ASSISTS ALL AROUND: In Asheville's overtime win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday, Dec. 31, the Bulldogs collected assists on 25 of their 32 made field goals. They followed that up by picking up 17 assists on 24 made field goals in the win over Liberty.
