ASHEVILLE, N.C.—The UNC Asheville women's tennis team is back in action after a weekend off to host Mars Hill, Saturday, Jan. 28, and Appalachian State, Sunday, Jan. 29. Both matches will be held at the Asheville Racquet Club with start times of 3 p.m.

BULLDOG BITES
QUITE THE PAIR: The No. 1 pairing of sophomores Hannah Francisco and Kylee Shipley have had a stellar start to the season. The pair is 2-0 on the year, and they have only dropped two games in their two triumphs.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lauren Watson-Steele was named last week's Big South Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her standout performance to open the season. The freshman from Cambridgeshire, England went undefeated in her first collegiate weekend, winning both doubles and singles matches against Lenoir-Rhyne and Central Arkansas.

PRESEASON PICKS: Asheville was picked fifth overall in the 2017 Big South Conference Women's Tennis Preseason Poll. The Bulldogs finished the 2016 regular-season in sixth place and took that seed into the Big South Tournament where they fell in the quarterfinals to No. 3 seed Coastal Carolina.

SEASONED DOGS: Coming into the 2017 season, Asheville's roster boasts three upperclassmen, two seniors and one junior. The Bulldogs will look to their experience on the roster to overcome a challenging Big South Conference schedule this spring.

UP NEXT:  Following play on Sunday, the Bulldogs will travel to Greensboro, N.C., for their first road match of the season against UNCG, next Saturday, Feb. 4, beginning at 1 p.m.

QUOTABLES
"Mars Hill are very solid so we have to make good investments in that match. Sunday's match against Appalachian State will be a fun one. We always have battles with them and we need to be ready to compete hard." - Head Coach Lise Gregory
