CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UNC Asheville women's tennis player Lauren Watson-Steele has been named this week's Big South Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, announced earlier today by the conference office.

Watson-Steele, a Cambridgeshire, England, native, went undefeated in her first collegiate weekend, winning both doubles and singles matches against Lenoir-Rhyne and Central Arkansas.

Paired with Christin Louw at No. 2 doubles, Watson-Steele helped clinch the doubles point over Lenoir-Rhyne. The duo also claimed the doubles point in the Central Arkansas match, rallying from a 0-5 deficit, to win 7-6 in a tiebreaker.

In singles play, Watson-Steele swept both singles competitions this weekend on the No. 3 singles court. Against Lenoir-Rhyne, she dropped just two games in her 6-1, 6-1, triumph over Emily Murchland. On Sunday, she defeated Central Arkansas' Hee-Jin Oh 6-2, 6-4.

Watson-Steele and the Bulldogs will return to action next Saturday, Jan. 28, hosting Mars Hill at the Asheville Racquet Club, beginning at 3 p.m.
