ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Visiting Gardner-Webb batted around in the top of the first inning on the way to posting seven runs as it handed UNC Asheville a 12-1 loss at Greenwood Field on Senior Day.

THE TURNING POINT
Gardner-Webb used six hits, just one for extra bases, to post the seven-run first inning. Gardner-Webb leadoff man Taylor Fisher finished with two singles in the inning as the visitors sent 11 men to the plate in the frame.
NOTABLES
-Asheville finished with just four hits as a team – receiving one hit from Pete Guy, Lucas Owens, Joe Tietjen and Danny Wilson. Guy's double pushed his on-base streak to 34 consecutive games, tying the mark set by former Bulldog Hunter Bryant.
-Jordan Carr was saddled with the loss, allowing the seven runs on six hits in the opening inning, his only inning of work. Five relievers – including seniors Corey Randall and Parker Swindell – combined for the final eight innings.
-Prior to the game, Asheville recognized the careers of seven seniors – Lucas Clarke, Erik Connolly, Pete Guy, Lucas Owens, Corey Randall, Adam Spracklin and Parker Swindell – with Connolly, Owens, Spracklin and Swindell receiving their diplomas on the field prior to the game.
-In the top of the first inning for Gardner-Webb, the visitors notched a two-run double, a pair of RBI singles and also plated runs via a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly as 11 men came to the plate. Asheville's only run came in the bottom of the frame, when the Bulldogs saw Carmine Pagano draw a two-out walk before back to back singles by Tietjen and Wilson (RBI) plated the run.
-Gardner-Webb used a two-run single in the third to add to the lead before a sacrifice fly and RBI double in the fifth inning added two more runs. The visitors notched the final run of the afternoon in the top of the sixth on a ground ball double play to bring in a run.
-Asheville left two runners on in the bottom of the third inning when Guy doubled and Pagano drew his second walk, while the Bulldogs stranded Owens at first following his single in the fifth. Wilson walked and then was erased on Connolly's fielder's choice ground ball in the sixth for the final base runners of the night for Asheville.
