Teams: Asheville (4-14, 0-2 BSC)

             High Point (14-5, 2-0 BSC)

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Visiting High Point opened up what had been a one-run game by scoring eight runs in the top of the sixth inning on the way to an 11-2 victory over UNC Asheville and giving the visiting Panthers the weekend series win heading into Sunday's finale.

THE TURNING POINT

Asheville received a leadoff double from Derek Smith in the bottom of the first inning and later added Pete Guy to the basepaths via a walk, but stranded the two to end the inning with a strikeout and groundout.

The Bulldogs would not tally another hit until a leadoff single from Joe Tietjen in the seventh, finishing with three total hits.

NOTABLES

-Smith's double, Tietjen's single and a single from Carmine Pagano, which also came in the seventh inning, were the only Asheville hits. The Bulldogs drew four walks in the game and left six men on base – two each in the first and seventh, and one in both the third and eighth.

-Asheville starter Jordan Carr was saddled with the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) in five-plus innings, with High Point totaling eight hits and a walk against him as Carr struck out two batters. Reliever Tyler Hughes gave up four runs in 2 1/3 innings, allowing three hits, while Nick Boyles struck out one batter and did not allow a hit as he tossed the final 1 2/3 innings.

-Spencer Brown led the way for High Point, finishing with a pair of doubles and three RBI, while Josh Greene had a three-hit afternoon.

-Andre Scrubb earned the win for the Panthers, striking out 11 Bulldogs over 6 2/3 innings of work.

-High Point took a one run lead in the top of the third inning when Chris Clare connected on a two-out triple down the right field line and scored moments later on Greene's RBI single. The game remained that way until the sixth, when the visitors sent 11 men to the plate and tallied eight runs on five hits and an Asheville error. The big hit in the inning was Brown's three-run double.

-The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh, when Tietjen led off with his single before advancing around the bases, and later scoring, via wild pitches. The second run was scored by Scott Kobos, who walked before being driven in on Pagano's RBI single into right field.

-High Point responded with two runs of their own in the top of the eighth, scoring on an error and sacrifice fly to end the afternoon.
