BIRMINGHAM – The UNC Asheville Women's Tennis team travels to Birmingham, Alabama to face the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers on Saturday, February 20 at 2:00 p.m.
NOTABLES
Last time out: The Bulldogs are coming off a 7-0 conference victory against Longwood University on February 13. Asheville swept doubles play with three straight victories. In doubles play, the duo of Hannah Francisco and Kylee Shipley won on court one (6-4), Christin Louw and Ericka Rivero on court two (6-3) and Lauren Brooker and Hunter Hall on court three (6-2). The Bulldogs also claimed all six singles courts in their 7-0 win.
Road Warriors: This is only the second road match of the season for Asheville. The Bulldogs fell (3-4) in their first road trip, a close match with Appalachian State University. Asheville took three singles wins from the Mountaineers: Francisco delivered a singles win on court one over App's Clare Cox, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4. Kylee Shipley bested Rebecca Morse in two sets on court five, 6-2, 7-5, and Lauren Brooker delivered a win over Brianna Armellino on court six, 1-6, 6-4, 10-3.
Big South Honors: Freshman, Christin Louw was named the Big South Conference's Freshman of the Week, announced on Wednesday February 17. So far this season, Louw is 3-0 in singles play and is 3-1 as a doubles player through the first month of her freshman campaign. The Whitehill, United Kingdom native contributed wins in both doubles and singles play to Asheville's Saturday sweep of Longwood. The duo of Louw and Ericka Rivero picked up a 6-3 win on court two in doubles play over Longwood's Anna Pelak and Mason Thomas and Louw also delivered a singles win on court six in two sets (6-0, 6-3). Louw joins her teammate, Hannah Fransico, who was named BSC Freshman of the Week for the week of February 10th.
