ASHEVILLE – The UNC Asheville Women's Tennis team hosts Longwood University in their first conference match of the season on Saturday, January 13 at 3:00 p.m.

 

NOTABLES

Head-to-Head: The last time these two teams met was on March 10 of the 2014-15 season. The Bulldogs defeated the Lancers 5-2 in Farmville, Virginia for their second conference win. Asheville took two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and start the match 1-0. The Bulldogs added four singles wins for a 5-2 victory.

 

A Look at Longwood: The Lancers were selected tenth in the 2016 Big South Preseason Poll. They are 2-2 on the season this year, with victories over Mount St. Mary's and La Salle. Longwood is currently on a two match losing streak, falling to Navy and the University of Richmond.

 

Big South Honors: On Wednesday February 10, Asheville's Hannah Francisco was named the Big South Conference's Freshman of the Week. Francisco is 3-0 on the season in both doubles and singles play. She delivered her first singles win in Asheville's season opener against Mars Hill, (6-2, 6-2). She continued her streak in the following weekend against Lenoir-Rhyne defeating Dominique Bruce, (6-0, 6-2).

On Longwood- “Longwood is a talented team and we are looking forward to a tough match with them tomorrow. This will be our first conference match this season and it will be a good test to see where we are as a team right now.”
