Bulldogs Down Coastal Carolina 79-77 in Overtime Saturday Afternoon

CONWAY, S.C.—The UNC Asheville men's basketball squad downed Coastal Carolina 79-77 in overtime Saturday afternoon at the HTC Center.
The two teams battled back and forth the entire first half with eight lead changes at the break. The Bulldogs went into the locker room with a double digit lead of 38-28. Both squads shot very well from the field in the first half with Asheville shooting 50% and Coastal shooting 44%.
Asheville began to pull away in the second half. At the beginning of the second half, the Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run over a period of 1:28 to stretch the lead. Asheville continued to pull away extending to their largest lead of the game at 21.
Coastal battled back going on a 23-1 run late in the second half to retake the lead at 64-63. After Coastal's Colton Ray-St buried a three to take the 69-66 lead with 22 seconds remaining. Junior forward Alec Wnuk responded with a buzzer beating three pointer of his own to send the game into overtime.
Ahmad Thomas hit a clutch three with 1:32 remaining in overtime to put the Bulldogs up 76-73. The Bulldogs went on to win in overtime, 79-77.
BULLDOG BITES
-Both teams shot 48% from the field
-The Bulldogs' largest lead was 21 with 14:02 in the second half.
-Asheville had a team total of 21 assist and 11 steals. The Bulldogs also forced Coastal to 17 turnovers, scoring 25 points off of them.
-Junior guard Ahmad Thomas scored in double digits yet again this season, scoring a team high 22 points going 9 for 15 from the field and 2 for 3 from beyond the arc.
-Junior guard, Kevin Vannatta tallied 10 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, and a steal.
-Freshman guard, MaCio Teague tallied his first career double-double scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Teague also provided 7 assists and 5 steals.
