Bulldogs Take Down the Elon Phoenix 78 to 67 on the Road Tuesday Night

ELON, N.C.—The UNC Asheville men's basketball team defeated Elon 78-67 in a game in which the Bulldogs controlled the tempo from start to finish. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 6-3 on the season while Elon drops to an identical 6-3 record.
Asheville stretched to a quick lead on the Phoenix in the first half. The Bulldogs implementing their 1-3-1 zone early forced Elon to a poor first half from the field going 7 for 26 (27%). Junior guard Ahmad Thomas and freshman guard MaCio Teague both dropped double digits in the first half, Thomas with 12 and Teague with 11.
The Bulldogs pulled away in the second half by utilizing 22 points in the paint and forcing 15 points off of turnovers. Asheville led 38:45 of the game.
BULLDOG BITES
-Asheville went 27-55 (49%) from the field and 6-13 (46%) behind the arc.
-Three players tallied double digits for the Bulldogs. Kevin Vannatta with a team high 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist. Ahmad Thomas compiled 16 points, a team high 7 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. MaCio Teague also scored 15 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.
-The Bulldogs' tight defense was able to earn 11 steals on 15 Phoenix turnovers.
-Asheville went 18-28 from the free throw line.
-The Bulldog bench provided 20 points, led by Will Weeks with 9 points and 5 rebounds.
UP NEXT: The Bulldogs will return home for the back half of a double header at Kimmel Arena this Saturday, December 10. The men's team will face Warren Wilson with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m.
