BULLDOG BITES

BACK ON THE ROAD: UNC Asheville commences a four-game road swing with a 2 p.m. contest against USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. on Saturday, Dec. 17.

SERIES: UNC Asheville after last year's 68-59 win over USC Upstate at Kimmel Arena leads the all-time series, 7-5.

LAST TIME OUT: A dominating second quarter performance allowed the UNC Asheville women's basketball team to pick up a convincing 84-65 win over Wofford at Kimmel Arena. The Bulldogs outscored the Terriers, 25-9, in the second quarter to own a 43-29 lead at the halftime break. That second quarter would pretty much prove to be all that the Bulldogs needed to pull away for the 19-point win.

FLIRTING WITH HISTORY: In UNC Asheville's resounding win over Wofford, Khaila Webb posted 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting.  Webb just missed on a triple-double in the game as she also had eight rebounds and six assists to go along with her 22 points.

IT'S AN HONOR: Prior to the win over Wofford, Tianna Knuckles was honored for joining the prestigious 1,000-point club at UNC Asheville. One of only 105 in Big South Women's Basketball history to surpass 1,000 points, Knuckles passed the 1,000-point mark in the Bulldog win over Western Carolina on Friday, Nov. 18, at Kimmel Arena. The senior guard out of Wendell, N.C. now has 1,050 career points.

DEFENSIVE: In the win over Wofford, Asheville forced the Terriers into 10 turnovers with the Bulldogs scoring 17 points off the 10 miscues.

PROTECTIVE: UNC Asheville women's basketball is sixth-best in the entire country in fewest turnovers with the Bulldogs only turning the ball over 88 times all season thus far.

GET ON BOARD: UNC Asheville senior center KJ Weaver became the 108th player in Big South Conference women's basketball history to eclipse the 500 rebound plateau in the Bulldogs' win over Western Carolina on Nov. 18. Weaver presently has 532 rebounds in her career.

AT THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN: UNC Asheville is currently leading the Big South Conference in scoring at 73.7 points per game. Last year the Bulldogs led the Big South in scoring at 68.2 points per game.

UP NEXT: UNC Asheville will travel to Appalachian State to face off against the Mountaineers at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, in Boone, N.C.

QUOTABLES

"We are excited to get back on the court after completing a week of finals. We have a tough matchup at Upstate on the road. We have played well at home this year but have yet to piece together four solid quarters outside the confines of Kimmel. It is essential that we execute well on both ends on Saturday and bring a tough mentality with us to give ourselves an opportunity." - Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick
