Our House: There is No Place Like Home for the Bulldogs

12.13.2016 | Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville basketball teams are both winning at an elite level right now, especially within the friendly confines of Kimmel Arena.

Over the last couple of seasons particularly the Bulldog basketball teams have turned Kimmel Arena into a house of horrors for visiting teams.

Right now, the Asheville men's and women's basketball programs are a combined 7-0 at home.

Winners of four straight, Asheville men's basketball is in the midst of its best start since the 2007-08 campaign at 7-3 overall.

The surging Bulldogs next welcome local rival Western Carolina (3-6) to Kimmel Arena for the 50th edition of the Mountain Rivalry currently 3-0 on the year at home with wins over Siena, Brevard and Warren Wilson. The Asheville men protected home court very efficiently last season, going 11-3 at home.

This year the Asheville women are 5-2 overall and are already 4-0 at home with wins over Western Carolina, Tennessee Tech, Warren Wilson and Wofford. The strong 4-0 start at home this season follows up a performance last year where the Bulldogs were 16-2 at Kimmel Arena.

The Asheville women's basketball team starts a four-game road swing at 2 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 10, at USC Upstate, but there are still two chances to see the Bulldog men's basketball team at Kimmel Arena over the course of the next few days with the Mountain Rivalry showdown set for a 4:30 p.m. start at Kimmel Arena on Saturday, Dec. 17. Just two days later, the Bulldogs welcome in-state rival UNC Greensboro to Kimmel Arena for a 7 p.m. game on Monday, Dec. 19.
