Bulldogs Open Big South Play with Friday Comeback Win

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team dropped the opening set Friday night but roared back to win the next three sets as they opened Big South Conference play with a 3-1 home victory over Gardner-Webb.
THE TURNING POINT
Tied at a set apiece, the Bulldogs came out of the break and opened the third set on a 5-0 run to set the tone for the final two sets of the night.
NOTABLES
-Three Bulldogs finished with double-digit kills, led by senior Chrissy Lakatos (16). Cara Guthrie and Madison Vaughn each finished with 10 kills.
-Amanda Powers notched with 24 assists and Katie Davis added 19 assists of her own.
-Three Asheville players finished with double-digit digs – Bryn Pfeiffer (17), Lakatos (11) and Guthrie (10).
-Asheville's eight victories match the Bulldogs' 2014 win total (8-22 overall).
-UNC Asheville is 3-2 in Big South Conference openers the last five seasons, all coming against Gardner-Webb.
-The Bulldogs are now 11-7 all-time against Gardner-Webb.
