Amryn Soldier Selected to Big South All-Academic Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced its annual women's tennis award winners on Tuesday evening, with UNC Asheville's Amryn Soldier claiming a spot on the league's All-Academic team.

 

Soldier, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., is an Art major who boasts a 3.712 GPA and recently had several of her creative pieces feature in the 2014 issue of Sanctuary, the art and literary journal of the Southern Regional Honors Council.  She had three of her photographs and two literary pieces published in the journal, and another photo featured on the front cover.

 

On the court, Soldier has compiled an 8-4 record overall in doubles play, playing primarily at the third flight.  In singles play, she has accumulated a 5-7 mark.

 

Charleston Southern's Marketa Placha (Czech Republic) was voted the Big South Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, while Coastal Carolina's Catherine Hewitt was tabbed the League's Coach of the Year by the conference's head coaches. Winthrop's Marina Humberg (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was selected Freshman of the Year, while the league's sports information directors voted Liberty's Brittany Yang (Newnan, Ga.) and Radford's Taylor Newman (Bethesda, Md.) as the Big South Women's Tennis Co-Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

 

Also announced today were the Women's Flight Winners, the All-Conference Singles and Doubles Award winners and the All-Academic team.  The Bulldogs will begin play in the Big South Tennis Championship on Thursday afternoon as the No. 6 seed, squaring off with No. 3 seeded Winthrop at 3:00 p.m.
