Women's Tennis Suffers First Loss of Season

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team dropped its first match of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-0 to Big South Conference foe Liberty at the Asheville Racquet Club.
The Bulldogs (6-1, 1-1 BSC) saw Liberty (8-2, 1-0 BSC) sweep the doubles action despite strong efforts in all three matches. In No. 1 doubles, Ericka Rivero and Emily McNall dropped a tough 8-6 decision, while Liberty took the No. 2 match 8-2 over Christine Boissevain and Lauren Brooker and won the No. 3 contest 8-1 over Amryn Soldier and Hunter Hall to secure the doubles point.
In singles action, Rivero dropped the No. 1 matchup to Belen Rivera in a pair of 6-3 sets, while Soldier fell in No. 3 singles by a pair of 6-2 sets to Maria Khval and Amalie Davidson dropped a pair of 6-4 sets to Evangline Crist in No. 5 singles. McNall fell 7-6, 6-1 to Mariely Hassey in the No. 2 match, Brittany Yang defeated Boissevain 6-0, 6-3 in No. 4, and Nicola Wellman defeated Hall 6-4, 6-1 in No. 6 singles.
The Bulldogs are back in action next Sunday when they step out of conference play to host Appalachian State on March 7 at 1:00 p.m. at the Asheville Racquet Club.
