Women's Tennis Stuns Furman, 4-3

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Freshman Amalie Davidsen won her match at #5 flight as the UNC Asheville women's tennis team stunned Southern Conference power and 67th-ranked Furman, 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs (5-0) stayed unbeaten on the season and earned their first ever win over Furman in six tries. Asheville won the doubles point but lost three straight singles matches to fall behind 3-1.
The Blue & White rallied to win the final three singles matches to pull out the victory. The match came down to the #5 flight. Davidsen knocked off Furman freshman Joan van Lochem in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4 to give Asheville the dramatic victory.
The Bulldogs won two out of three doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. Christine Boissevain and Lauren Brooker topped Harper Caswell and Alejandra Gill at flight #2, 6-2. Asheville earned the point at #3 flight when Amryn Solder and Hunter Hall teamed up to beat Karlee Bryde and van Lochem, 6-3.
Asheville fell behind 3-1 as the Paladins won singles matches at #1, #3 and #4 flights. Hall started the comeback by getting a win at #6 flight when she defeated Gil, 6-2, 6-2.
Emily McNall's clutch comeback win tied the match at #2 flight, 3-3. The California native lost the first set to Blair Martin, 4-6 but roared back to win the next two sets, 6-4, 6-2.
It was the Bulldogs first ever win over a ranked program and continued the best start in school history at 5-0.
UNC Asheville opens Big South Conference play on Saturday, Feb. 21 when the Bulldogs host Radford at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown at 1 p.m.
