Women's Tennis Concludes Fall Schedule

The UNC Asheville women's tennis team wrapped up the fall portion of its 2015 schedule this past weekend at the Wofford Invite. The Bulldogs competed in three tournaments this fall, compiling a 19-33 overall singles record and a 12-16 doubles record.

“The fall season was a solid one. We have a young team so it was all about teaching and developing. We had some good results and some disappointing results, but I feel we are going in the right direction,” ninth-year head coach Lise Gregory said.

Senior Lauren Brooker and freshman Kylee Shipley led the way in singles, with each posting a team-high four victories. In doubles, the Bulldogs were paced by the combination of freshmen Christin Louw and Hannah Francisco who led the team with a 4-2 mark.

Opening the fall at the Elon Invitational (Sept. 11-13), Asheville received solid doubles play, compiling a 6-6 record and seeing three tandems finish in the top five of their respective brackets. The duo of Brooker and junior Hunter Hall finished fourth, as did the duo of sophomore Amalie Davidsen and junior Caroline Sherrer, while senior Ericka Rivero and Shipley finished fifth.

Competing in the USC Upstate Fall Classic (Sept. 18-20), Brooker paced the team with a pair of singles wins while the doubles teams of Francisco/Louw and Sherrer/Davidsen each collected two wins.

Closing out the fall at the Wofford Invite (Oct. 30-Nov. 1), Brooker finished runner-up in her bracket, defeating opponents from Appalachian State and Western Carolina along the way.

The Bulldogs serve up their 2016 spring schedule Jan. 16, hosting Mars Hill.
