ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team opens the 2015 season with two home matches this weekend.

The Bulldogs host Mars Hill this afternoon at 2 p.m. and the battle Brevard Saturday at 3 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown and admission is free.

There's a lot of optimism with this year's Asheville squad. Seven returnees come back from last year's club that went 12-10. The Asheville Racquet Club will host this year's Big South Conference championship tournament.

“We had a good fall and have a lot of experience back,” explained Bulldog coach Lise Gregory. “Our conference is very good and there's no easy matches but I'm optimistic with this year's club. Most of our girls have been playing since their freshman year. We're excited about the start of the year.”

Three seniors will lead this year's Asheville squad. Christine Boissevain, Emily McNall and Amryn Soldier have been in the starting line-up since their freshman year. All three should be ready to have big senior seasons.

Junior Ericka Rivero has been a consistent player for the Bulldogs in both singles and doubles in her career. Junior Lauren Brooker, sophomores Caroline Sherrer and Hunter Hall are in their second year with Asheville and will be counted on in 2015. Freshman Amalie Davidsen is from Denmark and enjoyed an excellent fall.

This year's Big South Conference championship will be held at the ARC and the women's tourney will be from April 15-18.
