ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Janayla White scored to put Radford ahead on the offensive end and preserved the Highlanders' lead with a blocked shot on the defensive end as RU escaped with a 67-65 Big South Conference win over homestanding UNC Asheville Tuesday night at Kimmel Arena.

The loss overshadowed a brilliant performance by Bulldog (4-14, 3-6 BSC) senior guard Shonese Jones who scored a team-high 18 points. She was 5-of-8 from beyond the arc and a perfect 3-of-3 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Tianna Knuckles added 12 points off the bench for the Blue & White.

Radford (9-9, 6-3 BSC) won for the sixth time in its last seven games. The Highlanders were led by Claudia Quevedo with 19 points, including a crucial three-pointer late in the game. Aisha Foy and Gaby Gilmore added 10 points each.  Foy added six assists.

Asheville led 63-60 on two free throws from Paige Love with three minutes left. White scored on jumper to narrow the lead to 63-62.

On the Highlanders next possession, Quevedo sank a long three-pointer at the 2:14 mark to push RU in front 65-63.

The Bulldogs tied the game at the 41-second mark on a lay-up from freshman Khaila Webb.

RU took the lead when Foy hit White for a lay-up with 18 seconds remaining.

Asheville came down and went for the tie but Webb's shot was blocked by White with eight seconds left.

White was fouled but missed the front end of a one-and-one, giving the Bulldogs one more chance.

Brittany Gwyn's jumper from the lane was short and the Highlanders rebounded and held on for the victory.

RU led by eight in the first half at 20-12 but the Bulldogs rallied behind Knuckles. She scored all 12 of her points, including seven straight at one point to get Asheville within 34-32 at halftime.

The Highlanders shot 52 percent (26-of-50) from the field. Asheville shot 36 percent (21-of-59) from the field but knocked down 46 percent (6-of-13) of its three-point attempts.

UNC Asheville returns to the hardwood Saturday afternoon when the Bulldogs host Coastal Carolina at Kimmel Arena starting at 2 p.m.
