Jacksonville Defeats Volleyball/Play Nicholls State at 3 p.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A powerful Jacksonville team that won 30 matches last year downed the UNC Asheville volleyball team in the first match of the Radisson Invitational Tournament Friday morning. The Dolphins won the match, 3-0.
The Bulldogs (2-10) were led by Christine Lakatos with eight kills and six digs. Shelby Erickson added four kills, seven digs and two blocks. Kristen Clay sparked the defense with 12 digs, while Katie Davis contributed 10 digs.
Jacksonville (7-4) won the fifth straight time. They were led by Emily Laskelle's 14 kills.
The Dolphins dominated the first set and won 25-8. Asheville battled better in the second set as it had an early 4-2 lead before trailing 10-6. The Bulldogs fought back to trail 13-11 after a block from Madison Vaughn and Erikcson. But JU went on a 6-0 run to race to a 19-11 lead. The Dolphins closed out the set, 25-15.
In the third set, Asheville fell behind 5-0 and just couldn't catch up as Jacksonville finished the match out with a 25-14 win.
The Bulldogs are back in action this afternoon at 3 p.m. when they face Nicholls State at Jacksonville. They'll finish the tournament tomorrow afternoon when they travel to North Florida for a 3 p.m. start.
